Win Server 2008 R2 cannot update roles or features.

When I try to update roles or features on my server I get the following message:

Roles: Error: Cannot display data until computer is restarted.  I've rebooted the server multiple times but still get this same message and no error code.  Any ideas what caused this and how to fix it?

Hi there, 

I have a box running Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 SP1 and I am receiving the typical roles error but I have been unable to repair it thus far. 

Server Manager
Unexpected error refreshing Server Manager: Exception from HRESULT: 0x800F0805

For more information, see the event log: Diagnostics, Event Viewer, Applications and Services Logs, Microsoft, Windows, Server Manager, Operational.

I ran checksur.exe /verifyonly and saw that the following KB's were causing the error.  

KB2993958, KB3010788, KB3018238

Firstly I changed  the installed status to (07 - uninstalled) on the affected KB's in here

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ApplicabilityEvaluationCache

I was going to delete the keys from here, but could could not locate them.
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages

After amending the installed state, I rebooted the machine but the same problem persists afterwards.
Next I deleted the corrupted KB's from (after backing up the registry) here:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\ApplicabilityEvaluationCache
Again after the reboot the problem still persists

I have done plently of searches on the web and don't know what to try next, so some suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi All ,

   I am trying to add drivers to WindowsPE and getting the following initialization error. Mounting was successful though. Any piece of advise would be greatly appreciated.

Running a task schedule as a different user

Greetings

Operating System: Windows Server 2008 R2

Server Role: Domain Controller

I'm trying to create a task to run automatically using Task scheduler which will run a Powershell script. I'm running this on a Domain Controller and will be creating the task using my Domain Admin account, now I have a service account that I wish to use to run the task as and when I change the run as to the service account I get the following error:

I can confirm the username / password combination is correct, the service account has the rights to the folder to where the powershell script is and has the correct permissions to the right group in AD for the script to successful right ok. The task schedule work fine and runs fine when using my Domain Admin account.

Any assistance would be gratefully welcome.

Windows 2008 R2 - I just started receiving this when i log in, and also when i try to manage the machine:



MMC Cannot open the File:
C:\Windows\system32\ServerManager.msc

This may be because the file does not exist , is not an MMC console , or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.

This always worked before, and works for other users just not me on this particular box. This is a production box and i need a resolution quick please. Thanks in advance.

I have a client environment that has several servers. Now I've come across that their *.organization.com certificate is expiring.

I need to find out which servers are using this certificate, is there a tool or a way to find this out easily? Bear in mind that I'm complete beginner on certification side. 

Moreover in which cases is the old CSR used, is the best practice to create new CSR?

Windows Server 2016 TP3 issue with NOTIFICATIONS & ACTIONS

I"m running Windows Server 2016 TP3 on a virtual machine using VMWare Workstation 12 PRO. 

When I go to Settings >> Systems/Display/Notifications/apps/power >> Notifications & actions 

after a few seconds NOT showing anything on the right window (shows a blank right window), the whole Settings window will close and I cannot configure notifications to show all icons in the task bar.

This is happening almost every time I open the Settings Window.

By the way, on selecting here from language, then forum category, and then forum, there is not Server 2016 to select, just goes up to server 2012.

when i go to the server manager to add roles and features i get a server execution failed at the server selection screen after i hit next, even though the correct server is selected the event log says The server {$%%#^##%#$^$%} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.  10010 error source being distributedCOM  i have researched and tried a great deal, any ideas

We removed anti-virus software on Domain Controller then rebooted server but Network profile changed Domain network to Private Network.

DC: Windows Server 2012 Standart

Anti-virus software: ESET File Security 5.0

How to change network profil to Domain Network on DC?

window server task scheduler is not running with other admin ID

HI

i just create a new task scheduler to run the bat file to reboot the server. the scheduler is working perfect with the administrator. Due to the company policy, i create another admin ID and apply it to the scheduler. the scheduler is running but server didn't reboot itself.

Help required with ADFS 3.0 client certificate authentication

Hi,

I am currently working on integrating ADFS 3.o for Single Sign On to some 3rd party services along with PKI solution. The basic requirement is that I should be able to choose client authentication certificate as an authentication method in ADFS and then federate user credentials to 3rd party trust for single-sign-on.

I had done this successfully with ADFS 2.0 and that setup is working fine. I have the setup as ADFS 3.0 client authentication method enabled. When I open browser to logon, the ADFS 3.0 page displays a message as "Select a certificate that you want to use for authentication. If you cancel the operation, please close your browser and try again." but the certificates are not displayed for selection.

The certificates are valid and have valid chaining to CA. Could someone help me resolve this issue?
