On SharePoint 2010 Server, under the folder "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\LOGS" there are more than 600 files altogerther 80GB.

Most of those files are like:

     Server-NAME-DATE.log

Some are:

     Server-name-Date.Usage

    Upgrade-date-error.log

Is it safe to delete those files? Or, what is the best practice to manage those files?

Scheduled task won't run .bat file

$

Hi. On Windows Server 2008 I have a scheduled task that calls a .bat file. The fist step in the .bat file is write to a log file to the same directory in which the .bat file exists. This allows me to find out if it is ever run. When the .bat file is run from a command prompt it runs as expected writing to the log file and completing its actions. My problem is that when I run the scheduled task manually or allow it to run when scheduled it appears to run but the .bat file is never run. No log file is ever created. The History tab in the properties of the scheduled tasks shows the task being started and running then completing with an operation code of 2. I've disabled the UAC for the user account. I've set the task to run as the Administrator user and verified the permissions for that user. I know the password is correct for the task because I can make changes to the properties and save those changes with the username/password. I'm at a loss for further troubleshooting steps. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out why these .bat files are not being run?

Laptop crashes with loads of Event ID's

HI

I've got a 1.5 year old Asus, which after I've installed Itunes, start crashing with no apparent reason!

I updated windows to windows10, and it was working fine until end of December.

it has been reporting event ID 5973 (that was due to Mahjong game- which i now uninstalled)

now further id's are:

10010, 41(Critical), 6008, 7023, 1101, and 1... those are among st some others, and they all happen just before the system shuts down.

I run the antivirus- which shows no bugs, I deactivated it- as I read somewhere it might help- but that didn't.

it is mega rustrating, as the laptop is on for 30 min max, and then crashes, I lose all work I've done... as word recovery stops working...

any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Windows 2k8R2 - Receiving Error when logging in ( MMC Cannot open the File: C:\Windows\system32\ServerManager.msc)

Windows 2008 R2 - I just started receiving this when i log in, and also when i try to manage the machine:

MMC Cannot open the File:
C:\Windows\system32\ServerManager.msc

This may be because the file does not exist , is not an MMC console , or was created by a later version of MMC. This may also be be because you do not have sufficient access rights to the file.

This always worked before, and works for other users just not me on this particular box. This is a production box and i need a resolution quick please. Thanks in advance.

How to access profile registry on System startup

$

I have an application which uses psftp to copy some files from a Linux server. (This application is triggering from another UNIX server, - not a matter here, just FYI)

This works fine if there is a logged in session of the user account  in the windows server(in my Windows Server 2008 r2).

My issue is like, this application won't work if there is no logged in session.

Means, after every reboot, I need to login to the server manually with the same user account application uses.

Found that the issue may be  with the profile registry. This registry is created in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\SshHostKeys. (Putty registry is created in this location, I think)

Since this registry is created under HKEY_CURRENT_USER, it is not accessible on System startup.

So, I need to know how can I access this registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\SimonTatham\PuTTY\SshHostKeys) on the system startup onwards?

Can I include any scripts in System startup scripts (GPO).?

Please help me here asap

DHCP Not Working Correctly

Hello, I recently was trying to migrate a Windows Server 2003R2 (that will only boot in Safe Mode) to a Windows Server 2008R2. The 2008R2 was already a domain contoller, but the 2003 was DHCP. I tried to migrate DHCP from the 2003 to the 2008 server using the article here: http://www.cosonok.com/2013/01/how-to-migrate-dhcp-from-server-2003-to.html

The migration seemed successful; however, DHCP is experiencing errors. One obvious one is the 2008 service keeps asking for authorization though it is already authorized.

Please help! I don't know what do to.

Thank you

svchost.exe_ProfSvc processes crashing on Server 2008

We have a server installed with Server 2008 SP2, which acts as our PDC, VPN, and File Server.  We have multiple shares on the server, that PC's in the office map network drives to.  We are getting svchost.exe crashes, which cause the server to become unresponsive.  I can't seem to pinpoint what is happening when the process crashes, the server can be idle with no-one logged in, and the errors will occur.  The only way to fix the issue, is to reboot the server.  I tried some things I found on google (not sure which one worked), but the server was stable for awhile.  Now the svchost.exe_ProfSvc is crashing and causing the server to be unreponsive again.  After the svchost.exe crashes, I also get errors for not being able to register with DCOM in time.

collection menu disappeared under RDS on windows2012 R2

Hello

I had installed RDS on a 2012R2 server with success. I was able to add applications to a new collection without problems. Users can run these applications with success from their Windows 7 desktops.

Unfortunately , the "collection" menu has disappeared from my server and i am not able to make it display again.

The users continue to have access to their published applications although the collection menu is no longer displayed.

But the problem is that i can't modify , neither create new published application.

Could you help me to find what to do please?

Server 2012 R2 Server Manager and Remote Desktop Services Plug-in error

$

Upon opening Server Manager, I received the error " The maximum number of concurrent shells for the Remote Desktop Services plug-in has been exceeded.  Restart Server Manager, and then try again”.

If I close it and reopen it the message reappears.  I've loaded .net 4.6.1 because I read in another forum that might fix the issue, however, nothing changed after loading it.

In Windows Logs under Application have several errors for the source “ESENT” with Event ID’s 455, 489, 455,489 and 490 – not sure if they are related or not.

In Summary:  This problem came up after installing "Remote Desktop Services".  After installing RDS I was able to configure, but it would not work.  I found out the IIS default Website would not start and found a few errors in the Windows Logs about the HTTP service not working. I applied the fix in this KB which got the default Website to work and removed the errors, however RDS would still not work.  I then ran the command netstat -ba and found that the Dell Open Managent software was listening on port 80, so removed the software from the server.  I then rebooted the server and started receiving the Server Manager error.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Help required with ADFS 3.0 client certificate authentication

$

Hi,

I am currently working on integrating ADFS 3.o for Single Sign On to some 3rd party services along with PKI solution. The basic requirement is that I should be able to choose client authentication certificate as an authentication method in ADFS and then federate user credentials to 3rd party trust for single-sign-on.

I had done this successfully with ADFS 2.0 and that setup is working fine. I have the setup as ADFS 3.0 client authentication method enabled. When I open browser to logon, the ADFS 3.0 page displays a message as "Select a certificate that you want to use for authentication. If you cancel the operation, please close your browser and try again." but the certificates are not displayed for selection.

The certificates are valid and have valid chaining to CA. Could someone help me resolve this issue?

Thanks!

server Windows 2008 enterprise R2 - write cache issue

We have procured a Hardware HP Server DL380 Gen9 from M/s. Mushko Electronics along with OS (Windows 2008 Ent. R2). During the installation of software we need to enable "write back cache" feature for which hardware doesn’t support. According to hardware vendor the feature of write back cache is already enabled at hardware level and there is no need to activate the write back cache feature once it is enable from back end. Despite querying the issue with HPE, the HPE support also advised to contact the OS Microsoft regarding enabling write cache on software.

Now, the Microsoft is requested look into the matter and resolve our query as the application needed to enabled write cache feature for smooth functioning.

Waiting for your early response and solution.
