Folder Redirection issue

Hi All.

I am under deep investigation about my folder redirection issue,

File server Windows Server 2008R2.

Client Windows 7.

Some users getting this error:

Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Documents" to "\\xxx-file02\homes\Car\Documents".
 Redirection options=0x1001.
 The following error occurred: "Failed to redirect because the destination directory "\\xx-file02\homes\Car\Documents" is offline".
 Error details: "The network path was not found.
".

I really do now know is it araise. I did a small test:

1) Create a new user called :PelegIT

2) Logged in to the same computer and the suddently notice that the folder redirection worked!

So I'm trying to understand why existing users it stopped work and recevie the above error

more than 120 users are effected by this issue with regard to 40-50 that working properly.

Automatic Refresh Error

Hi,

On our Server 2012 Standard machine we are getting a message saying:

Automatic Refresh: Configuration refresh message: The system cannot access one or more event logs because of insufficient access rights, file corruption or other reasons.

In event viewer I cant see any errors.
Does anyone know what this could be and how to solve the issue?

Microsoft Edge GPO Setting and redirections

Hi All, Here I have got below requirements for windows EDGE and IE settings.

EDGE will be the default browser on Windows 10 machines. However, need to look a the GPOs released and their configuration
A)     I have company called ABCD and company home page to be set as a default in the EDGE browser. For achieving this we have a GOP setting for this.
B)     IE and Windows Edge favorites to be stored on user's home drive on the DFS server (\\abcd-no.avcd.net\data\home$\
1. For IE We can use a script Xcopy "%UserProfile%\Favorites\*.*" "\\abcd-no.avcd.net\data\home$\%UserProfile%\Favorites\"
2. But as I seen for Windows Edge favorites default path is below and same is not available on share path. Please provide some suggestions on how to create default path on shares since we have more uses on the home folders I need to create Edge degault path for all users

Edge fav path: %localappdata%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default\Favorites 

C)     I have few intra net sites i don't those sites to be opened in EDGE, whenever user tries accessing those sites it should redirect to IE.

I need a different batch scripts for each setting to apply on users policy

Scheduled task won't run .bat file

Hi. On Windows Server 2008 I have a scheduled task that calls a .bat file. The fist step in the .bat file is write to a log file to the same directory in which the .bat file exists. This allows me to find out if it is ever run. When the .bat file is run from a command prompt it runs as expected writing to the log file and completing its actions. My problem is that when I run the scheduled task manually or allow it to run when scheduled it appears to run but the .bat file is never run. No log file is ever created. The History tab in the properties of the scheduled tasks shows the task being started and running then completing with an operation code of 2. I've disabled the UAC for the user account. I've set the task to run as the Administrator user and verified the permissions for that user. I know the password is correct for the task because I can make changes to the properties and save those changes with the username/password. I'm at a loss for further troubleshooting steps. Can anyone point me in the right direction to figure out why these .bat files are not being run?

DNS Issues

Hi Guys, i have brought another issue with the DNS. Please find the following image. I have multiple sites and following child domains. Each domain has multiple DC's.
Parent: Root.net has (Root_DC1 & Root_DC2)

Chile: Child1-no.Root.net(Child1_DC1 & Child1_DC2), Child2-DK.Root.net, Child3-SW.Root.net and Child4-BB.Root.net.
All DC's are in different sites.

I have opened a DNS mgmt on root.net dc under forward lookup zone _MSDCS_Root.net i have opened a NS record which list all DC's servers. What i have observed  is in that list 2 of the DC's is showing unknown. Please check the screenshot.


** I didn't see any replication issue.
** All DC's are properly listing
** Didn't find any DNS errors
** Resolving all DNS queries.

Am observing all my clients users and machines all are getting authenticated by other DC's (RODC)
We have provided Primary and secondary DNS Child1_DC1 & Child1_DC2 server ip address and we dont have wins configuration
As per the concept all clients and users should get authenticated bu DC1&DC2; this is how configured in sites and services.
But my users and system are getting authenticated to other DC Child4-BB.Root.net. There is no where related.

Unable to Start IIS admin

Hello

Hope fully this the right forum to post this

We were having a windows WSUS installation Issue on this windows 2008 R2 server. The issue was then pinpointed to a BITS being not available to to continiue the installation.  We resovled the BITS issue with the help of microsoft suport, however we now notice that we are not able to start IIS Admin service.

The error we get is the follwoing IIS Admin Service  "IIS service could be started see related event in event viewer"

In the even viewer we can we the follwing related issue (see ***) in the, along with the the event that the IIS admin server could not we started(****)

Server Role: We are running SCCM CB 11511 on this server

Hope someone can give us a quick fix

Zone not loaded by DNS server

I setup one new windows 2008 server as a secondary dns server.

when i try to transfer the DNS from the master to this new server, i got the following error message.

"Zone not loaded by DNS server."

The DNS server encountered a problem while attempting to load the zone.

The transfer of zone date from the master server failed.

Correct the problem then either press F5 or on the action Menu, click refresh.

What should I do ?

My AD and primary DNS server is windows 2003.

Dear All,

I have question that is server manager 10 can manage server 2008 R2? When I try to connect server 2008 R2 that show me the message Error - Cannot manage the operating system of the target computer.

Is anybody can help me on this?

Clustered Scheduled Task

Hi,

We have configured 2 nodes windows cluster(node1 and Node2). Also we have added clustered scheduled task(task01 - AnyNode) for executing batch file using the powershell and it is successfully created on the two nodes.

But it shows ready on Node1 system and disabled on Node2. Hence for testing purpose we have disabled Network Adaptor on the Node1 system. But the task has not started on the Node2 system.

Can you please let us know if the node1 goes down, then the task will executed on the Node2?

Help required with ADFS 3.0 client certificate authentication

Hi,

I am currently working on integrating ADFS 3.o for Single Sign On to some 3rd party services along with PKI solution. The basic requirement is that I should be able to choose client authentication certificate as an authentication method in ADFS and then federate user credentials to 3rd party trust for single-sign-on.

I had done this successfully with ADFS 2.0 and that setup is working fine. I have the setup as ADFS 3.0 client authentication method enabled. When I open browser to logon, the ADFS 3.0 page displays a message as "Select a certificate that you want to use for authentication. If you cancel the operation, please close your browser and try again." but the certificates are not displayed for selection.

The certificates are valid and have valid chaining to CA. Could someone help me resolve this issue?

Windows Update Issue on Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard

I have Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. I have updated it through Windows Update. But it is now giving me problems.

The error is the Trusted Installer Service is restarting Automatic and in server manager i am unable to add any roles and features. If I remove Trusted Installer.exe, my computer works fine and i am able to login. But i copy back that file to the windows servicing folder, it again stuck at the Preparing to configure Windows.

I have already installed Windows Update Readiness Tool. In registry there is Reboot Pending option, but i am not able to delete that key.

Also I have tried to run sfc /scannow option and DISM commands, but sfc is saying that there is pending repair. reboot the system and run the sfc command again.

Please suggest me a solution, so that I could overcome the problem. this is my production server and I do not want installation of entire OS.

Disk Space Utilization for C Drive ( Server 2008 And 2012 )

Hello Technical Leaders,
Hope you are doing well. Required your help in below scenario.
Issue :-  C drive disk utilization on Server.
Resolution :-    We are following below Steps to resolve this issue.
1. Removing Temp files from Temp folder and windows folder.
2. Clearing Recycle bin folder.
3. Deleting Profile under User's.
4. looks for log folders which is occupies more than 500 MB.if find more than this, Contacting to server contact team for further steps.
5. after the above possible steps , if c drive having less than 1.53 GB free space , we increase 2 GB free space every time.
6. Backup is already been created for Logs files.
Note :-  we are unable to run disk cleanup every time and will not be able to compress the C drive. 
Winsxs :- Ca we deleted or compress  this folder . what will be impact on server if we do so. Requesting you all to help me with more Steps in order to complete this case study As we are getting more than 10 Auto tickets every day.

WS2016 Feature Install Failed.

I've got two Azure Virtual Machines, they are both Windows Server 2016. I've Installed IIS on both and have installed Classic ASP on one of them with no problems. However when I attempt to install Classic ASP on the second VM, it fails with error code: 0x800f0922

I have tried using powershell to install the feature, however when I run:

Install-WindowsFeature "Web-ASP" I get the same Error code.

Account is locked

We have AD and Exchange. One of the user account keep locking out every few minutes. Username and password is correct. The phone has Exchange account and username and password is correct.
In the log that appears on login error code 0x12.
I wonder how i should fix this problem?

What is maximum security event log size in 2012 R2 Domain Controller

Note: I already found this KB table...

https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/kb/957662

but it says recommended 4Gb individual log and 16Gb for all event logs combined for server 2008 64bit and above...

Found an article that says maximum size can be much larger and I want to confirm its validity as it is different from this KB article...

the thread here indicates bigger log is allowed and the windows event log setting will actually allow 20Gb to be set... ?? Are there concerns with doing this...we want to backup event logs but we see that the 4Gb log only covers about 6 hours of logging so by setting to 20 and using veritas to backup logs we ensure no lost entries...

Comments, thoughts... yes opening logs in eventvwr would be tedious but we would use log_parser for searching event logs for specific investigations of user activity...

Server management tools gateway with a proxy

I have a NanoServer on-premise I like to Manager with  Server management tools from Azure. For that i need a Gateway Server. This Gateway Server is in our local Network. It has Internet Access. I generated a Package in the Gateway Configuration of the Server management tools homepage in azure. After the installation of this package on the gateway server i should have a connection to the azure Server management tools. because this was not working, i checked our firewall logs and saw that the connection from the gateway to the internet was blocked because it tries to connect directly to the internet and not over our proxy. I configured the proxy settings in IE.

my question is, how can i configure the gateway service to use our proxy with authentication?

Role and Feature Refresh Failed with error

Hi,

In windows server 2012 server manager we get this red flag.
Role and Feature Refresh Failed with the following error:The Request to list Feature available on the specified server failed.Unable to obtain the feature list.The specified package is not valid Windows Package error : 0x800f0805."

Any one could help with a solution?

All Install/ Remove Roles Fail on Server Manager

Hi Everyone,

I am using Windows Server 2016 and I cannot install or remove roles in Server Manager on my administrative account any longer. It just failes with a red x with no error.

Installing/Removing roles works with powershell commands. Also, if I make a new admin account (by copying the adminstrative account that doesn't work in active directory), installing and removing roles works if I log into the new account. Also, if i login to my account that IS NOT working and I run server manager as "run as a different user" and put in credentials of the new account I created -  it works. I also tried removing the windows user profile that is not working from the server but once I log back in with the affected account the same install/remove feature problem comes back.

I'm not sure what happened or what I did or when it even stopped working. 
Any assistance would be extremely appreciated.

Kerberos Security Error

Hi,

Windows 2012 R2 forest/domain - all Windows 2012 R2 VM's.

I have just added a new Server to Server Manager on my management server and get a 'Kerberos security error'.  All servers have been set up identically. Looking in the System event log is a Security-Kerberos EventID 4:

"The Kerberos client received a KRB_AP_ERR_MODIFIED error from the serverathena$. The target name used was HTTP/Athena.domain.local. This indicates that the target server failed to decrypt the ticket provided by the client. This can occur when the target server principal name (SPN) is registered on an account other than the account the target service is using. Ensure that the target SPN is only registered on the account used by the server. This error can also happen if the target service account password is different than what is configured on the Kerberos Key Distribution Center for that target service. Ensure that the service on the server and the KDC are both configured to use the same password. If the server name is not fully qualified, and the target domain (DOMAIN.LOCAL) is different from the client domain (DOMAIN.LOCAL), check if there are identically named server accounts in these two domains, or use the fully-qualified name to identify the server."

I have tried removing and adding the offending server (Athena).  I have also run setspn -Q with the following results:

  1. How do I stop this happening?
  2. On the first line of the error, should it show athena$ - a hidden server?
